Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in a rut, spinning your wheels and not making any progress?
Or maybe you’re feeling overwhelmed by the number of decisions that need to be made and you don’t know which is right for you.
If so, you might benefit from creating a clear life vision.
Many of us want to live our best lives, but don’t know where to start. A clear life vision is essential for turning your aspirations into reality.
Having a clear life vision will provide you with direction and meaning. It can help you stay focused on your goals, provide clarity of your life purpose, and motivate you to take action each day.
But how do you create a clear life vision that is true to your authentic self? That is aligned to your life purpose and what matters to you? How do you not feel lost or stuck in life or in your career path?
If you are ready to take the leap and create the life of your dreams, let’s explore this further.
1. What is a life vision?
A life vision is a visual representation of what you want your life to look like in the future. It encompasses your aspirations, dreams and purpose for the different spheres of your life.
A life vision is unique to each person and can change over time as your values, priorities, and goals evolve. A clear life vision allows you to stay focused on what matters most while also giving yourself permission to make choices that lead you towards your goals and dreams.
It can act as a guidepost when making decisions so that they are aligned with your overall mission and purpose.
A great life vision is one that is inspiring, motivating and provide a sense of direction in all aspects of your life, such as career, health, relationships, finances, creative pursuits etc. It should also provide a sense of meaning and fulfilment in life.
If you are looking for greater meaning and fulfilment in your life, then creating your ideal life vision is a MUST.
How can I create my life vision?
1. Reflection
Creating your life vision starts with reflection.
Take some time to reflect on:
- Who you are right now
- What makes you happy
- What brings purpose into your life
- How do you want to show up in the world?
- What areas do you want to focus more?
- What do you want to create or experience?
- What legacy do you want to leave behind?
Once you have reflected on these questions start writing down the answers. Answering these questions can help form the foundation of your dream life plan. It will give you more clarity of your ideal life vision. Keep it simple – focus on the things that matter most.
If you find it hard to answer these questions, speak to your mentor or coach who can guide you to discover these answers.
2. Define Your Core Values
Your core values are the guiding principles of who you are and what matters most to you. They form the foundation for making decisions in all areas of your life—from career, finances, relationships, health, spirituality, family and more.
Take some time to reflect on what’s important to you in these various aspects of life.
- What do you want to stand for?
- What type of legacy would you like to leave behind?
- What are your ‘Must Have’?
The value exercise is an important exercise in our Life Visioning Workshop. We work on discovering our value system that supports us to live our authentic self. We identified our core values that defines our non-negotiable in life.
Once you have identified your core values, use them as a guide to create your life vision.
3. Identify your passion, interest – what sparks your joy?
It’s important to take a step back and reflect on what truly makes you happy. What is your passion and interest that sparks your joy?
Do you find passion in creative pursuits, interesting hobbies, or an opportunity to learn new skills?
When you can live a life that is filled with your passion and interest, life will never feel boring again isn’t it? Identifying your passion and interest will help you to create a clear life vision that sparks your joy so that you can say goodbye to draggy Monday blues.
4. Identify your innate gifts and strengths
What are you naturally good at? What do you do easily and effortlessly?
Everyone has innate gifts and strengths that sometimes can be hard to identify or recognise. Even if the things we do come naturally and easily, it can be difficult to think of them as special or unique. This is why having peer sharing and a coach to guide us through the life visioning process is important.
Identifying your innate abilities is a great way to unearth what you are truly good at, so that you can live with ease.
Whether it’s a creative gift, technical prowess, communication or people skills – discovering your innate abilities is an important next step for you to create a crystal clear life vision that is authentically true to you.
5. Identify your life purpose
Have you ever taken the time to think about why you were put on this earth? What is the meaning of your life?
Identifying your life purpose can be a daunting task, especially when life throws curveballs or life gets busy. That being said, it is also incredibly empowering and something worth making the time for.
If you feel like you are stuck or life feels off course, it’s probably because it isn’t aligned with your life purpose. To identify your life purpose, you can get feedback from mentors or role models who may have identified their own life purposes.Their answers may give you clues that steer you to the right direction.
Finding your life purpose essentially enable you to create a crystal clear life vision for yourself – one with much deeper and greater meaning and impact for you.
6. Get creative
Think outside the box! Think beyond your current circumstances, beyond your current competence and skillset. Brainstorming ideas with your peers and mentor can often lead to solutions that weren’t previously considered.
7. Express your life vision onto a vision board
A vision board is like the tangible output of the life vision in your mind. Now that you have completed the above steps, internalised your thoughts and desires and aligned everything that matters to you, you are ready to transfer your life vision onto your vision board.
Get a board where you can stick on the images/pictures that represent your life vision. You can also draw your life vision on a blank piece of A4 paper and then paste it onto a board or frame it nicely.
Conclusion:
A clear life vision provides meaning and direction in life while inspiring us to make positive changes in our lives. With focus and dedication we can make our visions become reality but it starts with having an understanding of what matters most, discovering our true selves, our gifts and our life purpose and then aligning them into a visible, crystal clear life vision that represent our dream life, our north star.
